SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the appointment of Michael Carrozzo to a judgeship in the Santa Barbara County Superior Court.
Carrozzo, 48, of Santa Barbara, has served as a deputy district attorney at the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office since 2007. Carrozzo served as a special assistant U.S. Attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Central District of California from 2005 to 2007 and as U.S. Army Captain, Judge Advocate at Fort Irwin from 2004 to 2007. He was a senior attorney at the Law Offices of Michael Gurfinkel from 1997 to 2004, an attorney at the Law Offices of Steven Karp from 1995 to 1997 and an attorney in private practice from 1992 to 1995. Carrozzo earned a Juris Doctor degree from Loyola Law School and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. He fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge George C. Eskin. Carrozzo is a Republican.
The compensation for this position is $181, 292.

In 2011, the Superior Court of California, County of Santa Barbara and the Legal Aid Foundation of Santa Barbara County were jointly selected to implement one of seven pilot projects (from a field of 22 applicants) in the State of California under the Sargent Shriver Civil Counsel Act. Under this grant, the Superior Court of California, County of Santa Barbara is now providing new and innovative services to the public in the form of a housing settlement master, a probate facilitator, as well as bilingual judicial assistants to aid both positions.
